Devilfish Poker Introduces 32 Card Draw

November 18th, 2008

Targeted: All players who are tired of hold’em and omaha and are looking for a new poker variation.
Value: No added value
Chance of big payday: Whatever you put in, determines what you can win :)
Type of Promotion: New Variation of Draw Poker
Take Advantage: If you are looking for an interesting draw poker game, where big hands are often present, then yes.

Details
32 Card Draw Poker is increasing in popularity across Europe and is now available to be played at Devil Fish Poker.  Only the top half of the deck is used, (7-A), which results in a lot more big hands such as full houses and quads.  All these big hands causes a lot of fast paced action, which makes 32 Card Draw one of the most exciting poker games around.

There are some rule changes.  The ranking of hands is different than in regular poker, with a flush beating a full house and certain suits being more valuable for flushes than other suites.  There is also an option to offer to split the pot.  Also, (A,7,8,9,10) counts as the lowest straight in 32 Draw Poker.

Here are the hand rankings for 32 Card Draw:
1. Royal Flush
2. Straight Flush
3. Four of a Kind
4. Flush
5. Full House
6. Straight
7. Three of a Kind
8. Two Pair
9. Pair

Suit Rankings
1. Hearts
2. Diamonds
3. Clubs
4. Spades

Overview
32 Card Draw looks to be an exciting form of poker.  I’m definitely going to try it out this Thursday after I play my weekly Devilfish Bounty Tournament.

Type of Promotion: Poker Camp
Take Advantage: If you are interested in improving your poker game and having some fun in the sun, then yes.

Details

The Poker Camp will be taking place January 5th and 6th at the Atlantis Hotel and Casino in the Bahamas.  Greg Raymer will be leading the camp, which will focus on reaching the money in deep stack, multi-table tournaments.  All skill levels will be catered to and the main teaching tool will be live hand analysis.

Overview
PokerStars Poker Camp is sure to be a huge success, as the biggest online poker room knows how to teach and party right.  This camp will be amazing if you are lucky/skilled enough to win a seat.  Learning from some WSOP champions and other PokerStars pros will be worth a lot in your future poker games as well as a great story for your buddies.
Poker won’t be the only thing on your plate over the two days though.  You’ll also have the opportunity to soak up the sun on one of the best resorts in the Bahamas or check out how your favourite pro is doing at the tables of the PokerStars Carribean Adventure.  All in all this will be a great weekend, so I would suggest taking a few stabs at some satellites.  I know I will be.

If you are going to be signing up as a new player at PokerStars be sure to use a PokerStars Marketing Code.  Using a marketing code will ensure that you receive the $50 poker bonus that is available to new players at PokerStars.

Everest Poker Welcome Bonus

November 5th, 2008

For a limited time Everest Poker is offering a $100 welcome bonus to all new players who open an account.  All you have to do to receive this bonus is enter the bonus code “Welcome” when prompted while opening the account.  Then once you make a deposit on Everest your bonus is released into your real money account by earning summit points. In ring games you earn 1 summit point for every $1 that is raked, including fractional points.  For example you would earn 0.2 points if $0.20 is raked.  For every $1 paid in tournament fees you earn 8 summit points.  Every summit point is equivalent to $0.07 of your bonus.  Your bonus is moved into your real money account each time you earn summit points.  This is different from the majority of poker rooms who move your bonus over in increments of $10 or $20.

The one downside of Everest’s welcome bonus is that it expires after 30 days and the amount that has not yet been earned is forfeited. This means you have to make sure you play enough poker the month after signing up to ensure you get as much of the $100 bonus as you possibly can!

Everest’s online poker bonus is one of the best in the industry because there is no minimum deposit to earn the full $100 welcome bonus. Also, because the bonus is not earned in increments, it is easier to earn as much of the bonus as possible before it expires.

In addition to the $100 welcome bonus, you will also receive a new depositors freeroll token if you make a deposit within one week of signing up. The token is for a $1000 freeroll that runs every Monday and Thursday at 1:30pm EST.

For example you can get Cake Poker Rakeback of 30% PLUS a $500 Bonus. And you will have daily stats, so you know how much rake you have earned. There are plenty of sites on every poker network that are offering rakeback. You can even get rakeback at Full Tilt. You’ll get a $600 Full Tilt Poker Bonus plus 27% of your Full Tilt rakeback. Be sure to check and see if the poker room you are going to sign up at offers rakeback deals. It can be a great addition to your bankroll.

You would be crazy to start playing at a new site without making sure you are getting some kind of sign-up bonus.

Full Tilt Poker Matrix Tournaments

October 16th, 2008

Rating: 4/5

Targeted: Sit’n'go Players - 6 or 9 seaters
Chance of big payday: Depends on the buy-in.  Big payday if you win all 4 of the tournaments and are named the “dominatrix”
Type of Promotion: Not really a promotions, just a new tournament structure at full tilt
Take Advantage?: If you like sitngos and want to try something neat, definitely do it.

Details
- You play the same 8 players on 4 different tables at the same time.
- There is a prize pool for each table + a prize for the overall best of the 4 tables combined.
- You earn 2 points for each player you knockout, 2 points for each player you finish ahead of and a bonus 2 points for winning a table.  Then the players with the top 3 amounts of points win the matrix prize pool.
-If you win each table you get the entire matrix prize pool, as well as each tables 1st place prize.

Overview
Its a neat strategy, which helps the best players, as there is a greater chance of good players being able to make even more money, because the true skill is more likely to come through 4 tables than just 1.  You can also get more reads on your opponents since they are the same in 4 tables at the same time.

The Devilfish Bounty Thursdays

Overview
This is a good €500 added value tournament, with the chance to take out Europe’s biggest pro, Dave “the Devlfish” Ulliot.  If you were planning on playing some poker Thursday night anyways, this is probably the best value online at this time for this buy-in level.

Full Tilt Poker 25K PLO Heads Up Championship Sweat Tournaments

August 18th, 2008

Rating: 4/5

Targeted: mid to low level buy-in tournament players and high roller poker fans.
Value: $5000 in added prize pools.
Chance of a big payday: The winner of sweat tournament of the eventual PLO heads up championship, wins the regular prize pool plus $1500, which is a decent size payday for a $10 investment.
Type of Promotion: Money added tournaments, while sweating your favourite pro.
Take Advantage: YES

Details
Full Tilt Poker is back with another 25K heads up championship, this time in Pot Limit Omaha.  Once the event plays down to the semi-finals, leaving 4 players, sweat tournaments will be set up, where you can play in $10 multi-table tournaments of the pro you think will win the heads up championship.  If your pro goes on to win the heads up tournament and you make the final table in the sweat tournament you win a share of the $5000 in added money as shown below:

1st - $1500
2nd - $1000
3rd - $800
4th - $600
5th - $400
6th - $250
7th - $200
8th - $150
9th - $100

You can only play in one of the remaining pro’s sweat tournaments and cheer them on as you work your way to the final table.  The sweat tournaments will start at 3:30pm EST on Sunday, September 7th.

Overview
I played in the Brian Hastings sweat tournament during the 25K NL hold’em heads up championship and have to say it was fun flipping back and forth between my tournament and Brian’s heads up tournament.  David Singer went on to win that heads up championship, and if memory serves me right, the least number of players joined his sweat tournament, which shows he was looked at as the underdog.  If you enjoy watching pro’s play heads up, and are interested in playing a great value tournament, you should definitely play the sweat tournaments.

Sunday is SINDAY at Devilfish Poker

August 15th, 2008

Rating: 4/5

Targeted: Low to middle buy-in tournament players
Value: €1266 in added prize pools.
Chance of a big payday: Not really, the biggest buy-in is €10 with €300 added, so unless a lot of people play, first prize will likely be under 1K.
Type of Promotion: Money added tournaments
Take Advantage: YES

2pm EST: €5 rebuy with €200 added
3pm EST: €6.66 freezeout with €666 added
4pm EST: €10 freezeout with €300 added

Overview
This is a great promotion for everyone.  Added value tournaments are a great way for average players to build their bank rolls.  The €6.66 freezeout basically has 100 players who have already lost before the tournament begins, thats how a money added tournament adds value to the players.  These sinday tournaments are every Sunday at Devilfish Poker and are a great promotion for the middle stake multi-tournament players.

Carbon Poker - Poker Olympics 08

August 11th, 2008

Rating: 2.5/5

Targeted: Frequent or high stakes players.
Value: Up to a max of $1900’s per player.
Chances of a Big Payday: None - you can earn up to $1900 depending on the amount of Comp Points you earn.
Type of Promotion: Bonuses from frequent play.

Details
The basic idea is that as you reach different levels of comp points throughout the month you will unlock cash that is instantly credited to your Carbon Poker account.
The first 10 levels are considered “bronze” levels, followed by 10 “silver” levels and 10 “gold” levels.  After you finish the 10 levels of each medal, you earn a larger bonus for moving onto the next level.  If you can play enough to make it to the gold levels, that’s where the real money is.
Here is the full details with the required amount of comp points to attain each level and each bonus:

Each Bronze level requires 5,000 comp points and receives a bonus of $5.  Finishing the bronze level by earning 50,000 comp points earns you an additional $50.
Each Silver level requires 10,000 comp points and receives a bonus of $15.  Finishing the silver level by earning 150,000 comp points earns you an additional $150.
Finally the gold level is where the most money is to be earned.  Each gold level requires 20,000 comp points and earns between $50 and $150.  Finishing the gold level by earning 350,000 comp points earns you an additional $500!

Summary
Carbon Poker does a similar promotion each month to entice players to play frequently in order to attain the bonus dollars.  This month it was just convenient to make it an Olympics promotion (last month it was diamonds promotion).  Any player is able to earn bonuses from this promotion, as 5000 comp points can be achieved fairly easily, but to earn all the money you have to play a ton at high limits.

To put it a bit into perspective you would need to play 4, 667 $10 tournaments to achieve the 350, 000 comp points.  This shows that the gold level status is very hard to achieve and this promotion is mainly meant for the high limit players.  You can earn comp points playing ring games or online casino games at Carbon Poker as well.

Personally, I won’t be taking advantage of this promotion, but if you are planning to play a lot of poker at high limits this month, I’m sure an extra $1900 would be good.  If this is the case, check out Carbon Poker.

DEVILYMPICS

August 7th, 2008

The Olympics are starting this Friday and I am starting to get excited.  And if you’ve realized that I don’t mean the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, then give yourself a pat on the back.  What I’m excited for is the DEVILYMPICS!  17 nights, 77 tournaments, and a combined €20, 000 money added!  How can I not be excited.

The action gets kicked off Friday with the Devilympics opening ceremony (tournament), which is a 1000 freeroll that includes a €250 bounty on the Devilfish himself.

Then there will be 5 events per night for the 15 straight nights of the Devilympics, and each of these events will have €100 added to the pot.  Here is the daily schedule of tournaments in EST time:

€10 Freezeout - 1:30pm EST
€5 Rebuy - 2:30pm EST
€10 Freezeout - 3:30pm EST
€5 Rebuy - 4:30pm EST
€10 Freezeout - 5:30pm EST
****All tournaments have €100 ADDED!

Each final table earns points towards the final leaderboard standings.  The points are as follows:
1st (GOLD) - 10 Points
2nd (SILVER) - 6 Points
3rd (BRONZE) - 4 Points
4th-9th - 1 Point

The top three finishers at the end of the Devilympics earn the following prizes:
1st (GOLD) - €5000
2nd (SILVER) - €3000
3rd (BRONZE) - €2000

My plan for the two weeks of the Olympics is to sit on the couch watching some quality sporting events, while having my computer on my lap playing in an Olympics of my own: the Devilympics!

Full Tilt Happy Hour

August 5th, 2008

Happy HourI love all happy hour promotions. Whether it be cheap drinks at a bar or double and triple your Full Tilt Points. I’d even go as far as to say the latter happy hour is more appealing to me.

At several two-hour intervals throughout the day, Full Tilt hosts various types of happy hours. My favourite is the late night 11pm to 1am anything goes happy hour. This is a normal poker playing time for me anyways, but with the happy hour promotion, I feel like I would be crazy to miss it.

Full Tilt Points can basically be considered rakeback, because they carry monetary value. With your Full Tilt Points you can do anything from buying a stylish Full Tilt cap, winning seats in large tournaments, to even purchasing a Mini Cooper S. To me, these happy hour times just can’t be passed up.

It’s funny, if I’m on Full Tilt playing some NL hold ‘em and then 7pm rolls around, I will immediately get out of all my games, and start playing Limit hold ‘em, because as everyone knows …… Limit hold ‘em happy hour is from 7pm to 9pm daily! Even though it’s not my game of choice, I still feel compelled to take advantage of this promotion.I thoroughly enjoy this Full Tilt promotion and it looks like it will continue right until the end of the year. To me that means a lot of happy hours playing at Full Tilt. So just keep an eye out for those smiley yellow faces at the following times and you too will get hooked on this promotion.
“Early Morning” – 6am to 8am – All ring games and tournaments
“Ring Game” – 3pm to 5pm – All ring games
“Limit Ring Game” – 7pm to 9pm – Limit ring games
“Late Night” – 11pm to 1 am – Anything goes

*These are the mid-week times. The times change slightly on weekends.

FTOPS IX

August 4th, 2008

So, FTOPS is back again on August 6th, and once again they are hyping it to be the best ever. And would Full Tilt lie to you about something like that? Of course not. This FTOPS is once again building off its successful predecessors with more than $15 million to be won over 25 events.

These 25 events include every kind of poker Full Tilt offers, as well as every type of tournament. This includes stud, Omaha, razz, HORSE, limit hold ‘em and of course many types of no limit hold ’em tournaments such as shootouts, six handed, heads up, and more.
The two big events that will be getting the most attention through this FTOPS are once again the $2500 - 2-day - $2 Million Guaranteed hosted by Patrik Antonius, and of course the massive FTOPS XI $2.5 Million Guaranteed Main Event on the 17th of August. To play in the main event it will cost you $500 + $35 or you can win your way through one of the many, many, many satellites that will be running.

Once again the popular Satellite Challenge promotion will be in full swing, with players trying to win the most satellites to any particular FTOPS event. The player who wins the most seats to an event receives the T$ equivalent of two more buy-ins to that event and second place receives the equivalent of one more buy-in. I have found that certain events just aren’t tried for that much, so this year I’m going to try to find an event that isn’t sought after, and go for the win.Wish me luck :D!

I will be trying to win my best satellites over and over and then use the T$ to play in as many FTOPS tournaments as I possibly can. I’ve played in a few FTOPS tournaments in the past and haven’t faired too well, so I’m thinking I must be due. (ha the gambler’s fallacy at its finest :P)
